Food Lover's Market cuts reporting cycles from months to weeks with IDU.

Everyone in our business now relies on IDU for consistent, trustworthy information. What once took weeks now takes days, and the clarity it provides has transformed how we make decisions.

Dylan Le Roux, Operational Finance Manager, Food Lover's Market

Food Lover's Market Holdings is the holding group behind some of South Africa's most recognisable fresh-produce brands — Fruit and Veg City, Food Lover's Market, FreshStop, Dried Fruit for All, and FVC International. Together, the group operates over 100 retail stores and 250 on-the-go convenience outlets, with FVC International recognised as the best import and export company operating in Southern Africa, making the group the country's undisputed leader in fresh produce. The group was founded in 1993 by two brothers who remain at the helm today, still driving the expansion that has built a multi-brand, multi-entity operation spanning retail, convenience, and international trade.

That scale brought a structural problem no amount of operational effort could resolve. Each division — Fruit and Veg City, FreshStop, FVC International and the rest — operated with its own account and cost-centre structures, each sitting inside its own legal entity. As the group expanded, the task of consolidating financial data across those entities became progressively harder. Existing systems could not keep pace with the demand for weekly and monthly reporting, and the result was reporting cycles that were slow, cumbersome, and prone to inconsistency. Management had no reliable view of group performance — only a collection of disconnected divisional pictures that arrived too late to act on. Budgeting was equally fragmented. Without a single consolidated view, the finance team could not surface the insights that decisions at group level required.

In 2017, Food Lover's Market Holdings implemented IDU as a single platform spanning budgeting, reporting, and forecasting — one system that could hold the full complexity of the group without forcing the finance team to reconcile between tools. With powerful analytics and Excel integration, monthly reports that had previously been assembled by hand across disconnected sources could now be produced at the click of a button, reducing the overall consolidation cycle from months to weeks and individual report generation from weeks to days. Critically, the platform was built to handle the intricate account and cost-centre structures that a multi-brand, multi-entity group like Food Lover's Market demands, allowing management to view expenses and performance at group level rather than entity by entity in isolation. Throughout the implementation and beyond, IDU's consultants worked alongside the finance team, ensuring the system was adopted fully and kept delivering reliable, consistent information as the business continued to grow.

"With IDU, Food Lover's Market turned complex reporting into clarity. What once took weeks now takes days, giving their teams the confidence to make faster, smarter decisions."
