Bethphage
Bethphage gains clarity and control with IDU, freeing more time to focus on care.

“It ticks all the boxes for budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis, and the reporting outputs are far better than with our previous system. I highly recommend IDU to other organisations”
— Chris Stephens, Head of Finance and IT, Bethphage
Bethphage is a charitable and specialist support provider for adults (18+) with learning disabilities, founded in 1994 and operating across Shropshire and the West Midlands. The organisation supports more than 150 adults living with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs — delivering care that ranges from two hours a week through to 24 hours a day, depending on what each person requires. That support reaches people in their own homes, family homes, individual or shared tenancies, and out in the community. The breadth of that remit — and the operational complexity it produces — places real demands on how Bethphage plans and reports its finances — and explains why the move to IDU Cloud changed the picture for its finance team.
Bethphage's previous FP&A system struggled to keep pace with the organisation's operational reality. Budgeting and forecasting were cumbersome, and formatting reporting outputs demanded time the finance team couldn't spare. Performance analysis lacked the flexibility needed to interrogate results in any meaningful depth.
The deeper problem was structural. Managing personnel costs, CapEx, and contract profitability across service categories as varied as day hours and sleep-ins required a multidimensional approach — one the old system simply could not deliver. Instead of generating insight, the finance team spent its time fixing outputs and reconciling data, chasing accuracy rather than producing the strategic thinking the organisation needed.
For an organisation dedicated to delivering thousands of hours of specialist support each week, the lack of streamlined financial management was a barrier to efficiency and growth.
In 2021, Bethphage adopted IDU Cloud's Financial Budgeting and Reporting Modules. IDU's consulting team worked closely with Bethphage's finance staff to configure the system to their precise requirements, delivering on time and without disruption. The implementation was rapid — functionally rich and cost-effective from the outset.
The shift materially changed what the finance team could do. Staff costs can now be allocated across branches with precision; each support contract carries its own profitability analysis; and budget-to-actuals comparisons that once required laborious manual reconciliation now come readily. Planning across personnel, contracts, CapEx, and fixed assets — previously fragmented across an inadequate system — is held within a single, coherent environment, freeing the team to focus on the work that matters most — the strategic insight that supports Bethphage's mission of care for adults with learning disabilities and autism.
"Partnering with Bethphage was about more than delivering a system — it was about enabling their finance team to plan smarter and focus on their mission of care. Seeing them move from a restrictive solution to IDU's intuitive, multidimensional platform has been incredibly rewarding." — Mark Sayle, Account Manager, IDU.
Four outcomes defined the shift.
Implementation was rapid: IDU's consulting team met tight deadlines, delivered on time, and configured the system around Bethphage's requirements from the outset. Multidimensional planning followed — personnel costs, support contracts, CapEx, and depreciation managed within a single coherent environment rather than forced through a system unfit for the task. Reporting outputs improved markedly, with formatting and analysis that the previous system had made laborious now straightforward to produce and share. And with the mechanics of financial management no longer consuming the team's attention, capacity opened for the strategic work Bethphage's mission demands — reforecasting with confidence and generating insight rather than chasing reconciliation.
"We have found IDU intuitive and easy to navigate. It ticks all the boxes for budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis, and the reporting outputs are far better than with our previous system. I highly recommend IDU to other organisations and could see it adding value across industries."
