IDU, the founder-led financial planning and performance management platform trusted by organisations across 33 countries, is strengthening its focus on the United Kingdom through its collaboration with Nicholas Young. Founded in 1997, IDU helps organisations connect budgeting, forecasting, reporting and operational planning in a single governed environment, empowering decision-makers with trusted financial intelligence and enabling better business performance.
Nicholas Young is collaborating closely with IDU as the company continues to expand its presence across the United Kingdom and Europe.
IDU has maintained a London presence for many years, supporting organisations across multiple regions through a connected approach to financial planning, forecasting, reporting and performance management. The increased focus on the UK market is supported by Nicholas' extensive experience in finance leadership, operational management and organisational transformation.
The Challenge
Financial intelligence should not be locked within finance departments. Yet many organisations still rely on fragmented spreadsheets, disconnected planning processes and outdated information when making critical business decisions. Senior executives, department heads, cost centre managers and operational leaders are often expected to deliver performance without access to the same accurate, governed information available to finance teams.
The result is slower decision-making, reduced accountability and planning cycles that consume valuable time and resources across the business. Organisations increasingly need a connected approach that links strategy, operations and finance within a single planning framework.
The IDU Solution
IDU helps organisations unlock the value of financial intelligence by connecting budgeting, forecasting, reporting, modelling and operational planning within a single governed environment. The platform integrates with ERP and enterprise systems, providing a trusted, connected source of information for finance teams, managers and executives alike.
By bringing planning and performance management together, IDU enables organisations to improve collaboration, increase accountability and make faster, better-informed decisions. Managers gain access to trusted information they can understand, own and act on, while finance retains the governance, auditability and control required to maintain a single version of the truth.
The platform's practical approach allows organisations to reduce reliance on spreadsheets, accelerate budgeting and forecasting cycles, and improve alignment between finance and operational teams. This creates what IDU refers to as "Finance in Flow", where planning, reporting and decision-making work together as a connected business process.
Supporting IDU's Growth in the UK and Europe
Nicholas Young brings more than 25 years of C-suite and advisory experience across strategy formulation, operational implementation and process improvement. He is a Chartered Accountant C.A. (S.A.) and FCMA/CIMA, and has held COO, CFO and board roles across capital markets, corporate, investment and consumer banking, healthcare and chemicals.
He spent a significant part of his career at Citi in EMEA and Africa-wide roles and has worked extensively across the UK, Germany, Switzerland and South Africa. More recently, he has worked with businesses in the fintech and digital assets sectors. He completed the Advanced Management Program at Wharton and the Artificial Intelligence Programme at SaĂŻd Business School, Oxford, and speaks English, Spanish and German.
The combination matters. Young is an accountant who has sat in both the CFO's and COO's chair, in regulated financial institutions and fast-moving technology businesses, across Europe and Africa. That experience closely mirrors the environments in which many IDU customers operate and provides valuable insight into the planning, reporting and performance management challenges faced by modern organisations.
"The thing that struck me about IDU is that it was built by accountants for the people who are not accountants," said Nicholas. "Most planning tools are built for the office of finance and merely tolerated by everyone else. IDU is designed equally for both sides of that table: guided submission for the manager, governance and audit trail for finance. Add close to three decades of doing one thing well, a genuine ERPagnostic integration layer, and AI that is actually shipping rather than being demoed, and it is a proposition that stands up against anything in the UK mid-market and enterprise space."
Value to the UK Market
"We have had a UK presence for many years, but our attention has largely been directed toward other growth markets, particularly across Africa, the Middle East, Canada and APAC," said Kevin Phillips, IDU cofounder and CEO.
"The UK has always been important to us, but we have been deliberate about how we approach the market. Nicholas' involvement signals a greater focus on the UK itself. He understands the realities facing finance leaders here, speaks their language, and brings the kind of international operational and financial experience that resonates strongly with our customer base.
What makes IDU different is that we do not simply help finance teams produce budgets. We help organisations connect financial intelligence to the people responsible for performance. When managers have visibility, finance has governance, and leadership has confidence in the numbers, better decisions follow. That is the foundation of Finance in Flow and a key reason why organisations continue to choose IDU."
