THE UNIVERSITY OF NAMIBIA
From Complexity to Clarity: UNAM’s Financial Transformation with IDU

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF NAMIBIA
The University of Namibia (UNAM) is the country’s premier institution of tertiary education. It consists of four faculties and 12 campuses country-wide, making it a truly community-based institution. Renowned for academic excellence, outstanding research, and impactful community development projects, UNAM serves a diverse student body of over 30 000 learners from 41 countries around the world. Although a relatively young university, UNAM has established itself as a leading force in higher education in Namibia and beyond.
THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE
Before implementing IDU-Concept, UNAM relied on Excel for its annual budgeting process. This manual system was time-consuming, inefficient, and offered limited visibility into financial data.
“Our reporting was actually sort of non-existent because of us having to use Excel, and our financial system is a bit lacking when it comes to reporting, ” explains Ralph van Rooi, Bursar at the University of Namibia. “It just made sense for us to invest in a product like IDU. ”
The university’s finance team needed a more efficient, userfriendly tool to empower faculties and departments to manage their own budgets while improving overall accuracy and control.

THE SOLUTION
UNAM implemented IDU-Concept, IDU’s flagship financial management software, to modernise and streamline its budgeting and reporting processes.
The platform’s intuitive interface and seamless ERP integration enabled a faster, more collaborative budgeting approach across the institution.
A PARTNER IN SUCCESS

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to see how UNAM has embraced IDU-Concept to transform its budgeting culture. They’ve taken ownership of the system and are using it to drive real efficiency and collaboration across the university. ” - Geoff ten Oever, Account Manager - IDU

“The fact that we can now ask our faculties and our support services to budget themselves has been a game changer. We follow a bottom-up approach, and it’s helped us become much more efficient when doing our budgets. And obviously, the reporting side is now much easier—by the click of a button. ”

THE RESULT
Faster budgeting cycles – Bottom-up budgeting sped up processes that were centralized and Excel-driven.
More transparency and participation – Campus-wide stakeholders can contribute, with reporting at the click of a button.
Enhanced reporting – Variance reporting and broader insights are easier and more accessible.
Growth potential – UNAM is building a structure around IDU’s functionality to expand use across the university.
