ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN
Established in 1892, the University of Cape Town (UCT) is South Africa's oldest and most venerable higher education institution. For almost 200 years it has maintained a proud tradition of academic excellence, which today sees it ranked among the world's leading teaching and research institutes.
THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE
Before partnering with IDU, the University of Cape Town faced significant inefficiencies in its financial operations. The finance team relied on a cumbersome and labor-intensive budgeting process using SAP, which required the manual collation of a multitude of spreadsheets to reach a final view of the numbers.
This complex environment made data access difficult and slowed down decision-making. The university needed to transition away from these time-consuming legacy systems to a solution that could streamline preparation efforts, free up the finance team for strategic analysis, and overcome the initial fears of changing the culture within a complex university environment.

THE SOLUTION
IDU-Concept is a user friendly, web-based system. Users are able to access it across any mobile device making access to information faster and easier. The UCT Finance Team began implementing IDU-Concept in January 2019, training took place at the end of June 2019, and it was rolled out for user access at the beginning of July 2019.
Deans and Executive Directors have lauded the new system, saying that data access and analytics is now fast and easy.
With IDU the budgeting process is streamlined, efficient and time-saving, freeing the finance team up to analyse results and be more strategic instead of collating a multitude of spreadsheets to get a final view of the numbers.
