Transparency and accountability unlocked at Sun Slots through IDU

ABOUT SUN SLOTS

Founded in 2002 as GPI Slots, Sun Slots is now a subsidiary of Sun International, operating six licensed LPM route operators across South Africa. With over 700 venues and approval to install around 5,200 machines, the business runs slot machines in pubs, clubs, hotels, and other licensed locations. Sun International holds 70% ownership, with Grand Parade Investments owning the remaining 30%.

THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE

Sun Slots faced a fragmented and time‑consuming budgeting process that relied heavily on spreadsheets. With multiple ERP systems across business units, consolidating financial data at month‑end was cumbersome and prone to errors. The lack of integration meant the finance team struggled to deliver accurate, timely plans aligned with actual performance.

Centralised budgets also created limited ownership and accountability. Managers had little visibility into the process, and the finance team carried the burden of reconciling data manually. This inefficiency slowed down reporting cycles and hindered the group’s ability to make informed decisions quickly.

THE SOLUTION

In 2016, Sun Slots implemented IDU‑Concept’s Financial Budgeting and Reporting Modules. The decentralised capture environment empowered managers to input budgets directly, creating transparency and ownership across the organisation. Automated roll‑ups and streamlined workflows reduced manual intervention, cutting down the time required to complete budgets.


By extending IDU to more budget types, Sun Slots began to unlock the full potential of the tool. Personnel costs could now be tracked with clarity, and the system provided a composite view across multiple ERPs. The result was a more efficient, transparent, and accountable budgeting process that aligned financial planning with operational performance.
