ABOUT CRAN

CRAN is the official regulator of the Namibian communications, broadcasting and postal services sector. CRAN was established by the Communications Act 2009 (Act 8 of 2009). CRAN is governed by a Board of Directors with six members and their mandate is to regulate electronic communications and communications by postal service.

THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE

As Namibia’s communications regulator, CRAN needed a financial management solution that was both powerful and cost‑effective. Their existing processes demanded ongoing IT support and system development skills, which created inefficiencies and added costs. Managing budgets and reporting across the organisation was cumbersome, and the finance team lacked the flexibility to administer the system independently.


The reliance on complex tools and manual interventions slowed down reporting and budgeting cycles, while limiting transparency and accountability. CRAN required a solution that could simplify administration, reduce costs, and provide robust functionality without heavy reliance on IT resources.

THE SOLUTION

In 2014, CRAN selected IDU‑Concept’s Financial Budgeting, Reporting, and Analytics Modules. The system was easy to administer, requiring no IT or development skills, and minimal ongoing support. This independence delivered significant cost savings while empowering the finance team to manage their own system confidently.


CRAN particularly valued IDU’s Recodes and Accruals functionality, which allowed journal reallocations and accrual entries directly at cost centre level. The intuitive, user‑friendly design streamlined workflows, improved efficiency, and enhanced accuracy. With responsive support from IDU’s helpdesk, CRAN gained a reliable, scalable solution that aligned with their mandate to regulate Namibia’s communications sector effectively.
